about

Upon leaving Hautbois (the group he founded 3 years prior, from whom you’ll hear on Volume 2) in 1983, Guy Elder put an ad in Everybody’s News: “computer/music geek seeks muse.” 19-year-old Pearl Legrand, who had only ever sung self-penned folk songs in the privacy of her Delhi apartment, was the first and only respondent. The pair quickly discovered that they had an undeniable musical chemistry, creating a propulsive brand of tuneful, danceable synthpop; unfortunately, their personal chemistry proved to be too tempestuous to endure beyond a single LP.

lyrics

couldn't brace this chill alone again
I couldn't open these petals to the stars again
I couldn't fevered fury drop my heart in acid
and watch it melt away

couldn't tear the ropes although they were thin
I couldn't open combinations to the dens of sin
I couldn't fevered fury pull your heart in acid
and watch it while I played

it was all an aberration to me
I found delusion in a puddle what I dared to not see
I touched the depth, the seeds, the evil deeds
the demons that I could not set free

now I feel the chill embracing me
I feel the specter of a friend the hot sweet sigh of relief
all the doors are open, hearts are broken, ties are frayed
and in my fevered fury acid melts my cares away

it was all an aberration to me
I found delusion in a puddle what I dared to not see
I touched the depth, the seeds, the evil deeds
the demons that I could not set free

now I am the chill embracing you
the hot sweet breath upon your neck of what you're scared to view
as I pull you near, the things you hear, you words you can't say
in your fevered fury acid melts your cares away

It was all an aberration to see
you found delusion in a puddle what you dared to not be
you touched the depth, the seeds, the evil deeds
the demons that you cannot set free
cannot set free
