about

Caught somewhere between mainstream and new wave pop, the Egglestons were never quite able to fit in comfortably with either. Their cause may have been hindered by their admittedly clever but generally jokey lyrics, which seemingly discouraged people from ever taking them too seriously. As a result, the band toiled in obscurity for only a few short years - despite their obvious talent and musicianship - before they all called it a day and got jobs at Provident Bank.

lyrics

I don't know how I ever got to her
I’ve got a temperature but I got no degrees
people ever say that it'll never last
they know about the past but not my destiny
we're both still breathing so I guess it makes us stronger
we just can't beat it so let’s join a little longer

we've got a love that's not quite cliché
with a debt to each other, but no interest we'll pay
to whatever wrong word wanders in the way
it’s gettin’ stronger every day

I’ve got a piece of mind that doesn't worry
'cos there's no flurry of shoes about to drop
if love is blind I’ll look the best I can
a bigshot in japan stuck in a china shop
if there's a question of our love I’ll never ask it
we count our blessings and we put them in one basket

we've got a love that's not quite cliché
with a debt to each other, but no interest we'll pay
to whatever wrong word wanders in the way
it’s gettin’ stronger every day

and it’s something from a dream
we’re two ships passing on the street
time is on my back
wearing me down until we meet

we've got a love that's not quite cliché
with a debt to each other, but no interest we'll pay
to whatever wrong word wanders in the way
it’s gettin’ stronger every day
