about

It was always a party when this 7(!) piece band (actually from St. Bernard, despite the claims of an early press kit) would play around town. Audience members were routinely invited to grab any available instrument and join the onstage antics, resulting in a gleeful, musical chaos that those who experienced it likely still haven’t forgotten. After only two years and one EP (featuring this somewhat restrained studio version of one of their best live numbers, an homage to the legendary NY photographer Roberta Bayley), the band went their separate ways – much to the chagrin of their sizable fan base (the self-styled “MAFers”).

lyrics

I’m so underexposed
I need the best with a camera
I want to be on film
I need the best - I, I need

Roberta Bayley to take a picture of me
help me pick out my clothes
and teach me how to pose
Oh Roberta, can’t you see?
there’s no one else
who can see the real me

is the lighting right?
I don’t think the lighting’s right
I could look good if the lighting’s right
should I bring the whole band?
or do you want only me?
just tell me where to be tonight

Roberta Bayley, take a picture of me
help me pick out my clothes
and teach me how to pose
Oh Roberta, can’t you see?
there’s no one else
who can see the real me

I can’t let more time lapse
(I can’t let time lapse)
I can’t let more time lapse
(take off your lens caps)
I make an amateur overture
to your aperture
Mick Rock, Herb Ritts
Mapplethorpe and Leibovitz
to have them shoot me you can’t pay me
I only trust

Roberta Bayley to take a picture of me
help me pick out my clothes
and teach me how to pose
Oh Roberta, can’t you see?
there’s no one else
who can see the real me

Roberta Bayley...
