Otto immigrated to Cincinnati with his family from Munich, Germany in the late ‘70s when he was still a teenager. By the mid-80s, he was a fixture on the local alternative scene, and could be regularly spotted at the gigs of such local stalwarts as Red Math, In A Siren Trance, Sleep Theatre, Nocturne Lament, True Azure, et al. It wasn’t long before Otto felt ready to start making his own music – from 1987, “Saints and Angels” is arguably the perfect distillation of what he referred to as his “danceably dour” songwriting and production style.
lyrics
and now my life begins to fall apart in ways
I could never imagine
I can’t keep dwelling deep within the days
I wish had never happened
I’m not the kind to turn and run away
but here I am on my knees and calling…
saints and angels
I need you to watch over me
‘cos my life’s become too painful
the world will never leave me be
I walk the dark and lonely streets of town
with all the people staring
the weight of everything pulling me down
but I am just past caring
it’s getting where I can’t turn the other cheek
so here I am on my knees and calling out to…
saints and angels
I need you to watch over me
‘cos my life’s become too painful
the world will never leave me be
I’ve never been someone who wanted help
but here I am on my knees and calling
saints and angels
I need you to watch over me
‘cos my life’s become too painful
the world will never leave me be
