In late 1976, these four Walnut Hills High School marching band members bonded over a mutual love of proto-punk bands like the Stooges and Ramones. Initially content to bash through cover songs in the drummer’s Kennedy Heights basement, they were soon inspired by the burgeoning UK punk scene to begin writing and performing their own songs. “Sorry” neatly encapsulates the early development of their muscular yet melodic style.
lyrics
there’s a feeling coming over
that I know I’ve felt before
when you say you’re coming over
but you’re never at my door
you could say I’m feeling lonely
but your inaction makes me sore
so I guess I’m not your only…
you never cared
you never dared
you never loved me
or were you just too scared
to say you're sorry
you’re the lady and the tramp
you’re the beauty and the beast
you’re the first and the foremost
you’re the last and the least
I can’t seem to exorcise you
so don’t bother with a priest
but I cannot quite despise you…
you never cared
you never dared
you never loved me
or were you just too scared
to say you're sorry
you’re always running round and digging up dirt
are you filling the hole in your life?
I need a vacation from your excavations tonight
which of us is the more wicked
who’s the calm and who’s the storm
when your standard deviations
get mistaken for the norm
so I balk at the injustice
in the acts that you perform
and you still don’t know what trust is…
you never cared
you never dared
you never loved me
or were you just too scared
to say you're sorry
sorry
